Harvest has Begun
We're on the cusp of two months of frenetic work. Between juice making and winemaking we'll see very little down time until the end of the harvest season.
It has been an especially bad year for powdery mildew for the two no-spray vineyards we work with. Still, there are certain grapes like Leon Millot and Cayuga that appear completely unfazed by the mildew.
Over in Zillah where Paradisos del Sol grows spray-free vinifera grapes, the mildew and birds have been worse than usual. It looks like we will still get Xarello, Semillon , Teroldego and Sangiovese. Fingers crossed 🤞.
In our estate vineyard we had some sample clusters this year, which provided some data on when to expect ripening to occur on our site. However we also experienced aggressive bird predation so our samples came and went rather quickly.
Still we made some juice from the Mad Angie and tasted the Labelle, Golubok, Leon Millot, New York Muscat and Monastery Muscat. Fir winemaking I think I am most excited for the Labelle and the Golubok, I guess I am a sucker for teinturier varieties.
